Responsibilities
- Pleasantly greet patients, introduce yourself, and confirm their identification.
- Prepare patients for x-ray by assisting with gowning as needed.
- Utilize hospital computer systems (HIS/RIS/PACS) to retrieve information, export images, review images, verify data, perform order entry, and complete exam records in RIS.
- Receive order requests, check for special instructions, and consult with Radiologists as needed.
- Prepare room, equipment, and imaging materials for procedures.
- Assist patients at the end of procedures, ensuring they are returned to their room, ED, or other units. Outpatients are guided to exits or other testing locations.
- Explain procedures to patients clearly and thoroughly.
- Transfer and position patients on the imaging table, adapting views as needed for patient cooperation or compliance.
- Select and operate equipment, adjusting settings and exposure parameters on an individual patient basis.
- Observe patients and equipment during procedures, reporting unusual occurrences.
- Perform patient assessments appropriate for imaging procedures to assist Radiologists during interpretation.
- Provide age-appropriate care, primarily for adults and geriatric patients, with occasional care for adolescents, children, infants, and neonates.
- Lift, move, and transport patients via wheelchair or cart from patient rooms, Surgery Center, ESD, and other care areas.
- Assist with clerical and front office duties, including answering phones, releasing information, burning CDs, and related tasks.
- Identify problems, communicate them to supervisors, and offer solutions as appropriate.
- Clean and disinfect x-ray rooms and equipment.
- Maintain stock supplies for assigned work areas.
- Use lead shields to protect unaffected parts of the patient’s body from exposure.
- Wear a film badge at collar level at all times and use time, distance, and shielding to minimize radiation exposure.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must be a student in the final year (or graduate) of a formal radiologic technology training program.
- Current General X-ray Machine Operator license with the Ohio Department of Health.
- Current CPR certification, with bi-annual recertification required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Proper use of body mechanics to push, pull, and lift patients from carts, wheelchairs, or other transport devices onto imaging tables.
