Key Responsibilities
- Collections and abstracts data from patient medical records, especially those related to stroke care.
- Ensures the accuracy and completeness of the abstracted data by cross-referencing information from multiple sources within a patient's medical record.
- Adheres to specific clinical data abstraction guidelines and standards, such as those set by the American Heart Association.
- Enters the abstracted data into a database or registry, often using specialized software. This includes maintaining and updating the data as necessary.
- Participates in quality assurance processes to ensure data integrity. This involves regular audits of the data or the abstraction process.
- Remains informed about developments in stroke care and data management to ensure ongoing competency in the role.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of recent GWTG STK and/or CSTK abstraction experience.
- Ability to independently abstract GWTG STK and/or CSTK cases using registry specifications and clinical documentation.
- Strong understanding of healthcare quality reporting, registry abstraction, clinical documentation review, and medical record interpretation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, documentation, and follow-through.
- Comfort working in multiple EHRs, registry platforms, vendor tools, and data collection systems as assigned.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Using the GWTG registry platform, CSTK abstraction tools, vendor platforms, quality reporting systems, and/or related data collection tools.
- Experience with IRR, QA review, audit validation, and/or abstraction accuracy review.
