Guidance, Navigation & Control Engineer (Senior, Level III) - Secret
About the role
As a GNC Sr Engineer, you will join the GN&C team on the Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) program. In this role, you will apply missile guidance, navigation, and control expertise to modeling and simulation, integrate Matlab/Simulink models into a 6-DOF C++ simulation, develop high fidelity models and simulation software, build new source code in C++ and Python, modify code in C++, C, Matlab, Simulink, Fortran, Python, Linux shell, and YAML, execute simulation software on a high performance computing cluster including Linux systems or VMs, work in an Agile DevOps environment with Docker/Container and Kubernetes deployment, collaborate with the performance analysts, Flight Software team, and customer, and develop new algorithms.
Responsibilities
- Apply missile guidance, navigation, and control expertise to modeling and simulation
- Integrate Matlab/Simulink models into a 6-DOF C++ simulation
- Develop high fidelity models and simulation software
- Build new source code in C++ and Python
- Modify code in C++, C, Matlab, Simulink, Fortran, Python, Linux shell, and YAML
- Create unit tests
- Execute simulation software on a high performance computing cluster including Linux systems or VMs
- Work in an Agile DevOps environment with Docker/Container and Kubernetes deployment
- Collaborate with the performance analysts, Flight Software team, and customer
- Develop new algorithms
Requirements
- Broad technical skills such as rigid body dynamics, control theory, and/or computer programming
- Proven experience using MATLAB and/or Simulink for simulation and analysis of feedback control systems, closed loop guidance, or navigation algorithms
- C/C++ programming experience
- Demonstrate strong math skills in the areas of linear algebra, matrix math, statistics, trigonometry, and/or coordinate transformation
- Ability to clearly document analysis results in presentation slides and engineering memos
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment
Qualifications
- At least 3+ years of related experience
- May have a post-secondary degree or training in a related discipline, such as Aerospace Engineering or other related field
Desired Skills
- Experience with simulations and physics-based modeling
- Experience with state estimation and navigation algorithms, including Extended Kalman Filters
- Experience with kinematics using Euler Angles and Quaternions
- Familiarity or experience with missile defense systems or fire control
- Experience with C++ development and Gitlab
- Experience with FORTRAN and 6DOF simulations
- Familiarity with model based software development using Simulink (autocoding)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability as a team player to build consensus among peers and build effective relationships with team members
- Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical issues to peers, management, subcontractors and customers
