Guidance Counselor, BEAM Discovery

About the Role

BEAM Discovery is a free, intensive summer program for underserved students with talent in math. As the Guidance Counselor for BEAM Discovery B, you will support rising 8th graders in a residential summer program, helping them navigate the transition to high school and beyond.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and small-group guidance to students on academic, social, and emotional challenges.
• Assist students in developing high-school plans, including course selection and extracurricular involvement.
• Lead workshops on study skills, time management, and goal-setting.
• Collaborate with program staff to ensure a supportive and inclusive environment.
• Monitor student well-being and provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress and concerns.
• Participate in staff training and team meetings.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in school counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field.
• Experience working with middle school students, preferably in a school or youth program setting.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Commitment to equity and inclusion in education.
• Availability for the full duration of the program (dates to be confirmed).

Schedule

This is a full-time, residential summer position. The program typically runs for 3–4 weeks in July or August, with mandatory pre-program training in late June.
