GUEST EXPERIENCE HOST - PART TIME

The Shop at Philbrook is a seasonal, temporary position ending January 1st, 2027, located in a 1920s Italianate Villa surrounded by 25 acres of gardens. Philbrook Museum of Art features a growing collection of approximately 15,000 objects from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe, spanning 3,000 BCE to today.

About the role

As a Sales Associate, you will provide product knowledge and exceptional service to Museum Shop clientele. Responsibilities include greeting guests, processing sales, maintaining sales floor appearance, and supporting the overall Philbrook experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality customer service to generate sales and engage guests in Philbrook’s exhibitions, events, and programming.
• Process sales transactions accurately, package merchandise, and promote museum activities and membership opportunities.
• Prepare the shop for opening and closing, including balancing the money drawer, generating end-of-day reports, and maintaining inventory levels.
• Assist with telephone, mail, online, and special request orders, including packing and shipping merchandise.
• Work as part of a team to complete daily projects such as cleaning, preparing packaging, labeling merchandise, and other tasks as directed by the Floor Manager.

Requirements

• Wednesday through Sunday availability, including evenings and weekends.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse visitors, members, donors, and staff.
• Self-motivated, takes initiative, and maintains flexibility while multitasking.
• Ability to continuously learn new information and communicate effectively.
• Capable of standing or walking for at least 80% of the shift and lifting up to 20 lbs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of retail or service industry experience.
• Experience developing long-term customer relationships in a similar environment preferred.
• Previous cash handling and POS sales system experience strongly preferred.
