About the role

The GT Coordinator/SST Coordinator/Reading Interventionist at Bayou Gulch Campus is responsible for leading and managing gifted education services, early-intervention processes, and reading interventions. This role involves creating and enforcing rules, observing and evaluating scholars, designing and implementing advanced learning plans, providing instructional support, and collaborating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and enforce rules and procedures for responsible behavior, maintaining order among scholars.
  • Observe and evaluate scholars' academic performance, behavior, and social development.
  • Lead the creation, implementation, and annual review of Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs).
  • Provide coaching and resources for differentiation, enrichment, acceleration, and talent development models.
  • Plan and conduct scholar activities for a balanced program of instruction.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure adherence to state timelines and audit expectations.
  • Support special needs scholars in learning subject matter and skills.
  • Facilitate SST meetings, guide problem-solving discussions, and ensure consistent implementation of the SST framework.
  • Collaborate with teachers to design evidence-based interventions and supports tailored to individual student needs.
  • Support referrals to additional services when appropriate.
  • Communicate clearly with families about concerns, intervention plans, progress, and next steps.
  • Prepare, administer, and analyze formative assessments and assignments to monitor scholar progress.
  • Confer with parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators to resolve scholars' behavioral and academic problems.
  • Discuss academic progress and behavior with parents/guardians.
  • Maintain accurate and complete scholar records.
  • Encourage scholars to explore learning opportunities and persevere with challenging tasks.
  • Deliver small-group and individualized reading interventions aligned with the Colorado READ Act and scientifically based reading research.
  • Administer and interpret literacy assessments to identify student needs and monitor progress.
  • Support the creation, implementation, and documentation of READ plans for students identified as having a Significant Reading Deficiency (SRD).
  • Participate in ongoing literacy training.
  • Enforce administration policies and rules governing scholars.
  • Collaborate with other grade level faculty members to plan and schedule lessons.
  • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual scholar’s needs and progress.
  • Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
  • Prepare for assigned classes and submit weekly lesson plans.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development and revision of elementary school programs.
  • Prepare reports on scholars and activities as required by administration.
  • Instruct and monitor scholars in the use and care of equipment and materials.
  • Organize and lead activities promoting physical, mental, and social development.
  • Attend professional development meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, and guide scholars in learning from those activities.
  • Organize and label materials, and display a rotation of scholars' work.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Administer standardized ability and achievement tests and interpret results with Administration.
  • Involvement of parent volunteers in classroom activities.
  • Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, scholar organizations, and academic contests.
  • Maintain confidentiality per FERPA.

Requirements

The ideal candidate must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and passing scores on the appropriate Colorado Educator Proficiency Assessments -or- a Colorado Teaching Certificate. They should also possess a DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card / Background and Criminal History Clearance, First Aid and CPR Certification, working knowledge and understanding of the Common Core Standards, Classical curricula, Mathematical concepts, Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophy, the Common Core Standards, MAP Online Instructional Improvement and Instructional Effectiveness System w/Assessment Technology Incorporated (ATI), Saxon Math program, Institute for Excellence in Writing/Fix-It Grammar, and Memoria First Start Reading and/or Memoria Spelling/Phonics. Additionally, they should demonstrate proven leadership ability, strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, a strong commitment to classical education principles, and working knowledge of pedagogy, instructional methodology, curriculum development.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and passing scores on the appropriate Colorado Educator Proficiency Assessments -or- a Colorado Teaching Certificate.
  • DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card / Background and Criminal History Clearance.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Common Core Standards (2020 Colorado Academic Standards) -OR- a willingness to learn such standards.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Classical curricula and learning -OR- a willingness and desire to learn the Classical model of education.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Mathematical concepts and experience with Saxon Math programs.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophy and methodology -OR- a willingness to better understand Miss Mason’s educational philosophy and methodology.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Common Core Standards -OR- a willingness to learn such standards.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of MAP Online Instructional Improvement and Instructional Effectiveness System w/Assessment Technology Incorporated (ATI) -OR- a willingness to effectively understand the MAP Online Instructional Improvement and Instructional Effectiveness System w/ATI.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Saxon Math program -OR- a willingness to gain a greater understanding of this unique approach to teaching math concepts and skills.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Institute for Excellence in Writing/Fix-It Grammar in grades 4-8, and Memoria First Start Reading and/or Memoria Spelling/Phonics in Grades K-3 -OR- a willingness to learn this highly structured, teacher-scholar interactive approach to learning grammar and compositions.
  • Proven leadership ability promoting collaborative decision making.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to positively impact community, parents, scholars, administration, instructional staff and office support staff.
  • Strong commitment to supporting and safeguarding the principles of excellence in classical education.
  • Working knowledge of pedagogy, instructional methodology, curriculum development.
  • Ability to manage conflict resolution with an attitude of humility and service.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Data-Driven Instruction model - OR- a willingness to better understand and learn more of data-driven instruction and assessment decision making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with scholars, parents, co-workers, vendors and build relationships.
  • Strong commitment to providing leadership in promoting health and safety, including a healthy environment.
  • Ability to operate office equipment as required on assignment; i.e. fax machine, copier, computer, etc.
  • Ability to lift boxes and packages of varying weights and move them to other locations.
