GRP Utility Operator-in-Training
The SJRA is a public entity whose mission is to develop, conserve, and protect the water resources of the San Jacinto River basin. Its primary purpose is to implement long-term, regional projects related to water supply and water quality. SJRA delivers raw water to both municipal and industrial consumers and provides water treatment and wastewater services through the ownership, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure including reservoirs, groundwater wells, surface water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, lift stations, and miles of open channel and conveyance systems.
About the role
The GRP Utility Operator-in-Training assists and trains in the operation of a surface water treatment plant transmission system and receiving facilities in a safe, cost-effective and efficient manner and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations. This role performs various housekeeping and grounds maintenance activities while learning the duties listed below.
Responsibilities
- Accurately documents, organizes, and files correspondence, reports and records related to maintenance activities in the EAM system.
- Through SCADA data and physical interaction, evaluates system pressures, equipment operation and instrument readings; advises the lead operator regarding any process adjustments conducted or required to optimize operations.
- Performs general manual labor including filling and emptying of machine bins and cleaning equipment, facilities and grounds and painting as required.
- Performs general equipment maintenance including, but not limited to, routine preventive maintenance, lubrication and minor adjustments.
- Operates Authority vehicles and/or equipment for operational purposes by driving from facility to facility to conduct job duties.
- Performs various routine and non-routine field and laboratory sampling and testing (chemical, physical and biological) for process and disinfection adjustments.
- Tracks and maintains inventory; orders chemicals and supplies for plant operations.
- Follows safety regulations, policies, principles, and procedures. Utilizes all appropriate personal protective equipment.
This position is classified as safety sensitive and is subject to random, unannounced drug and alcohol testing. It is also classified as primary essential personnel, requiring the individual to work as usual or as needed during emergency events, preparations, or recovery as directed by supervisors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 1-year general work experience.
- TCEQ Class D Water Operator (Preferred).
- Valid Texas Driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
