Group Tutor - Flushing

About the role

The Boys’ Club of New York (BCNY) is one of New York’s oldest and most well-respected youth development organizations. Tutors will work in small groups with boys between 6–12 years of age who require special education instruction and modifications, administer diagnostics when appropriate, support other tutors in their instruction techniques, and help create strong programs such as specific clubs or preparation courses.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and implement appropriate programs and lesson plans that enhance skill development of participants using a variety of techniques.
• Work regularly with the Education Director, Education Coordinator, Social Worker, and/or Psychologist to assess the needs of individual students and adapt lessons to those needs.
• Prepare class materials, curriculum, and bulletin displays, and make copies as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in Special Education, and/or other highly relevant field.
• At least 2 years of experience as a tutor or classroom teacher.
• Comfort with students and subject content for high school level.
• Teacher certification or formal education experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of NYC school standards a plus.
