About the role

This role is responsible for the daily operation of the department, including assigning and reviewing work, resolving issues with shipments, and complying with departmental procedures. The position leads a team of 16-25 employees but has no authority to hire or performance-manage the team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the work of departmental employees by assigning tasks, verifying completion, rotating assignments, and enforcing company safety and work rules.
  • Investigate and report incidents and non-compliance with safety or work rules to the Supervisor as directed.
  • Ensure all work areas are clean.
  • Maintain or coordinate maintenance on departmental equipment, including scales, forklift batteries, spotters, forklifts, and hand trucks.
  • Review equipment inspection sheets daily or as prescribed; follow up with employees when inspection sheets are not completed.
  • Process all shipments according to established company procedures, including validating truck drivers, directing trailer activity, verifying bills of lading, cross-checking lot numbers, and reviewing/approving the work of direct reports to ensure accuracy and safety.
  • Inspect and report on cooler and freezer conditions, finished product cycle counts, packaging materials, and other inventory levels as directed.
  • Perform data entry duties to document goods receipts, inventory levels, material movements, and outgoing product shipments, including volumes, material codes, and costs.
  • Understand and apply appropriate safety procedures through education, training, use of protective equipment, and adherence to safety policies, regulations, standards, and laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 0-1 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand documents related to shipping and receiving goods and materials.
  • Ability to accurately enter information into software applications using a keyboard and personal computer.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical operations.
  • High School Diploma and/or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Certified Forklift operator.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed within a manufacturing plant environment with noise, extreme temperatures, and significant movement of powered equipment, people, and conveyors.
  • Work conditions are typical of an office and plant environment.
  • No domestic travel is required.
  • Physical requirements include continuous lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, stretching/reaching, using hands or fingers, talking, hearing, and feeling objects, tools, or controls.
  • Requires the ability to stand/walk for the duration of work hours, primarily on concrete flooring.
