Group Leader

About the Role

The Group Leader, under the direct supervision of the Branch Manager, leads and directs elementary and middle school-aged members in groups of approximately 10 to 20 youth. This role involves facilitating recreational and developmental activities in areas such as the games room, learning center, and outdoor space.

Responsibilities

• Ensure programs and activities adhere to current health and safety protocols.
• Coordinate and lead fun, instructional program services and cooperative learning activities for youth.
• Plan and lead programs, services, and activities to promote participation.
• Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
• Set up and clean up daily program materials.
• Work in the food service area, preparing, cooking, and cleaning up according to guidelines.
• Supervise members in program areas, ensuring safety and proper use of equipment.
• Assess facility needs and perform janitorial duties (e.g., mopping, cleaning tables, trash removal, disinfecting).
• Quickly address and resolve behavioral issues (e.g., arguing, fighting, horseplay).
• Maintain accurate program attendance records and submit them in a timely manner.
• Cultivate positive relationships with members, parents/guardians, and staff.
• Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment by enforcing safety protocols and policies.
• Identify and report safety concerns or maintenance requirements.
• Participate in safety drills and contribute to emergency preparedness efforts.
• Contribute to improving Club safety and wellness policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age with a High School diploma or GED; some college experience preferred.
• Minimum of 48 units of college curriculum or completion of the Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE), or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of one year of experience working directly with school-aged youth; knowledge of youth development preferred.
• Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, email, internet research, and social media navigation.
• Strong leadership skills to instruct, coach, and direct groups of children in recreational and educational activities.
• Ability to respond effectively to emergency and disciplinary situations.
• Excellent communication skills with youth, parents, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications (required within 30 days of hire).
• Ability to be active and on your feet for a minimum of five hours each day.

Special Conditions: Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and maintaining a drug-free work environment. Occasional weekends and evenings for fundraising events, committee meetings, and activities. Possess or be willing to obtain a California Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class B, for transporting Club members as needed.
