Overview

We are seeking a Group Lead US Tax to join our Agricultural Solutions team in Research Triangle Park, NC. This role is part of our preparations for becoming an independent, pure-play agricultural company within the BASF Group.

About the role

Lead the U.S. Tax function for Agricultural Solutions, with full accountability for U.S. direct and indirect tax matters in a complex, multi-national environment. Prepare, review, and submit all U.S. federal, state, and local tax filings, oversee tax accounting, tax payments, and reporting processes, ensure alignment with statutory and management reporting, manage the U.S. tax compliance calendar, and drive performance, capability building, and a high standard of execution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the timely and accurate preparation, review, and submission of all U.S. federal, state, and local tax filings, including corporate income tax and indirect taxes.
  • Oversee tax accounting, tax payments, and reporting processes, ensuring alignment with statutory and management reporting.
  • Owning and managing the U.S. tax compliance calendar, ensuring deadlines are met with strong controls and governance.
  • Create chemistry by leading and developing the U.S. tax organization, driving performance, capability building, and a high standard of execution.
  • Act as the primary advisor to senior leadership on U.S. tax matters, providing clear guidance on risks, opportunities, and compliance requirements.
  • Establish and maintain a robust tax control framework, ensuring audit readiness and leading all tax audits and authority interactions.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal, and business leaders, as well as global tax teams and external advisors.
  • Support key business activities including transactions, restructurings, and strategic initiatives with clear and practical tax guidance.
  • Drive continuous improvement through standardization, automation, and use of tax technology.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Tax, Accounting, Finance, Law, or a related field, with a CPA or equivalent professional certification required.
  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in U.S. corporate taxation, within a multinational corporation and/or leading advisory firm.
  • Proven experience in a senior tax leadership role with responsibility for U.S. tax operations in a complex organization.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. corporate income tax, state and local tax, indirect taxes, and tax accounting.
  • Leadership experience in developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience working in a global, matrixed environment while partnering across functions and geographies.
  • Exposure to large-scale transformation, restructuring, or IPO-readiness environments, which is strongly preferred.
  • Strong business acumen to translate complex tax topics into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Effective communication skills and stakeholder management with executive presence and sound judgment.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, such as SAP, and tax technology tools with a focus on process efficiency and data quality.
  • A pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset with a high level of ownership, integrity, and commitment to excellence.
