Group Fitness Supervisor overseeing daily operations, instructor development, and member experience in a multi-format fitness environment.
About the role
The Group Fitness Supervisor leads the Group Fitness department, ensuring high-quality classes, instructor support, and alignment with business goals. This position combines hands-on instruction with team leadership, fostering an engaging and welcoming fitness community.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Group Fitness department, including staffing, scheduling, and class quality.
- Coordinate instructor substitutions and schedule adjustments based on attendance trends and member demand.
- Recruit, interview, onboard, and train new Group Fitness Instructors in partnership with location management.
- Observe instructor performance, provide coaching, and conduct routine class evaluations to maintain company standards.
- Mentor instructors to improve class delivery, member engagement, and professionalism.
- Build strong member relationships, address concerns, and promote participation in group fitness programming.
- Ensure studios, equipment, and fitness spaces remain clean, organized, and safe.
- Verify instructor certifications and compliance with company policies and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate department records, assist with budgeting, and coordinate equipment maintenance.
- Teach a minimum of five (5) Group Fitness or Edge classes weekly, delivering safe, engaging, and motivating sessions.
- Collaborate with location leadership to achieve department goals and key performance indicators.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, or related field preferred.
- Current nationally recognized Group Fitness or Personal Training certification (ACE, NASM, AFAA, ACSM, ISSA, or equivalent).
- Specialty certifications in formats taught (Yoga, Pilates, Cycle, HIIT, Barre, Strength, etc.) preferred.
- Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience teaching group fitness classes.
- Minimum one (1) year of leadership, coaching, mentoring, or supervisory experience.
- Experience scheduling instructors and coordinating class coverage.
- Preferred experience in a health club, boutique fitness, or multi-format fitness environment.
- Preferred experience interviewing, hiring, and onboarding instructors.
- Preferred experience reviewing performance metrics and improving member engagement.
