About the role
The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for planning and leading safe, effective, and engaging group exercise classes that support the physical wellness goals of Centre members. This role creates a welcoming and encouraging environment while modeling Christlike character and promoting community within classes.
Responsibilities
- Instruction & Class Leadership
- Plan, prepare, and deliver structured group fitness classes (e.g., strength training, HIIT, circuit training, cardio, functional movement).
- Demonstrate correct exercise form, technique, and modifications to accommodate varying skill levels.
- Maintain continuous awareness of class participants to ensure safety and injury prevention.
- Provide coaching cues, motivation, and encouragement to foster engagement and confidence.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure the exercise environment is clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Respond appropriately to participant concerns, injuries, or emergencies.
- Maintain current CPR/AED certification and required fitness credentials.
- Follow all Centre policies and procedures, including emergency protocols and equipment guidelines.
- Community & Ministry Engagement
- Create a positive, inclusive, and welcoming class atmosphere.
- Model Christ-honoring behavior and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.
- Build supportive relationships with class participants while maintaining healthy boundaries.
- Support Centre programs and collaborate with the Fitness & Wellness Manager as needed.
Qualifications
- Christian Faith & Character
- Profess and demonstrate a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
- Exhibit a consistent Christian testimony and adherence to biblical principles in personal and professional life.
- Demonstrate spiritual maturity, humility, and a strong commitment to excellence and servant leadership.
- Education, Certification & Experience
- Current Group Exercise/Aerobics Instructor Certification from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, NSCA).
- Current CPR/AED certification required.
- Prior group fitness instruction experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a positive and encouraging demeanor.
- Ability to teach safely, motivate participants, and adapt exercises for various abilities.
