Position Summary
Group Fitness Instructors at URGE FITNESS are responsible for delivering safe, motivating, and high-quality classes that align with URGE brand standards and programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead group fitness classes that are safe, engaging, and appropriately challenging for participants of varying fitness levels.
- Deliver clear instruction, proper cueing, and exercise modifications as needed.
- Maintain a positive, energetic, and motivating presence throughout each class.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages member retention and participation.
- Start and end classes on time and follow all URGE FITNESS class format guidelines.
Preparation & Programming
- Come fully prepared for each class with a structured workout that follows URGE-approved class formats and guidelines.
- Your own music playlists appropriate for the class style, audience, and facility standards.
- Ensure workouts are thoughtfully programmed, balanced, and aligned with current fitness best practices.
- Be adaptable and responsive to member feedback while maintaining class integrity.
Technology & Check-In Responsibilities
- Ensure all members are properly checked into class using URGE FITNESS software prior to or at the start of each session.
- Communicate with front desk staff or management if there are check-in or attendance issues.
- Follow all facility procedures related to scheduling, substitutions, and class coverage.
Professional Standards
- Represent URGE FITNESS professionally at all times while on-site.
- Arrive early to prepare the studio, equipment, and sound system.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the studio before and after class.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Communicate schedule changes, time-off requests, or substitution needs in accordance with URGE policies.
Certification Requirements
- Must hold a nationally accredited Group Fitness Certification OR
- Be willing to complete the URGE FITNESS Internal Group Fitness Certification, which is provided free of charge and qualifies instructors to teach URGE-approved formats.
- Acceptable certifications may include (but are not limited to): ACE, NASM, AFAA, ISSA, or equivalent nationally recognized organizations.
Scheduling & Commitment Requirements
- Classes are scheduled on a set weekly basis.
- Instructors must be able to commit to a consistent day and time each week to be considered for employment.
- Reliability and attendance are essential; frequent cancellations or schedule instability may result in removal from the schedule.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience teaching group fitness classes preferred (format-specific experience a plus)
- Strong communication, leadership, and motivational skills
- Ability to connect with diverse member populations
- Comfortable coaching in a group environment with energy and confidence
- Professional, punctual, and dependable CPR/AED certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Physical Requirements: Ability to demonstrate exercises and movements for the duration of class, ability to lift, move, and set up basic fitness equipment as needed, comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy fitness environment
