Key Responsibilities

  • Class Instruction
  • Lead safe, well-organized, and engaging group exercise classes in accordance with YMCA guidelines.
  • Provide a welcoming experience for all participants, including greeting members before class and assisting new participants with orientation to the class format.
  • Create an inclusive environment where members feel supported and motivated.
  • Adapt exercises and class formats to accommodate varying fitness levels, abilities, and needs.
  • Ensure participant safety by inspecting floors, equipment, and supplies before each class and reporting maintenance or equipment needs to a supervisor.
  • Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and provide clear, accurate instruction throughout each class.
  • Maintain familiarity with current fitness trends and best practices relevant to group exercise instruction.
  • Follow all branch safety protocols and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate class attendance records.
  • Select and use appropriate, motivating music that aligns with class format and YMCA standards.
  • Maintain required certifications, tracked in Club Connect.
  • Support branch special events, promotional activities, and community programs as needed.
  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development sessions.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience leading fitness classes.
  • Ability to relate to and work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Current CPR or AED certifications.
  • Current National Group Exercise certifications (ACE, ACSM, AFAA, or YMCA).
  • Excellent customer service and hospitality skills.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends.
