About the role
The Group Exercise Instructor develops and instructs safe and impactful exercise programs that meet the needs of members, program participants, and the community. This position requires understanding different health needs, creating a welcoming environment, and promoting the Y's brand.
Responsibilities
- Understands and adjusts activities to serve all health needs.
- Creates a safe environment for all individuals.
- Connects members and participants to foster community.
- Finds coverage and assists with sub-assistance.
- Communicates appropriately based on readiness to change.
- Identifies and celebrates successes.
- Ensures equipment is clean and properly maintained.
- Aligns Healthy Living programs with goals.
- Promotes the Y brand by wearing provided clothing.
- Understands and addresses health impacts of individuals and communities.
- Helps create health goals and skills.
- Strives for sustained impact in Healthy Living programs.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings.
- Adheres to Y Brand guidelines and marketing standards.
- Affords advocacy and promotes the Y's cause.
- Assists with annual campaigns.
- Learns and utilizes UKG Employee Portal.
Requirements
- Experience and training in instructing group exercise classes or willingness to gain experience.
- Current CPR/AED/Basic First Aid Certification.
- Current professional Group Exercise instructor or Specialty Certification (YMCA, ACE, AFAA, NETA, ACSM, NASM).
- Knowledge of proper exercise equipment use, good body mechanics, and healthy exercise practices.
- Ability to respond to inquiries and requests.
- Ability to present information clearly and effectively.
- Ability to solve practical problems and design/implement work processes.
- High tolerance for interruptions and varied routines.
- Desire to take charge of responsibilities.
- Confidentiality in handling office and personnel matters.
- Successful interaction with various types of people.
