Rogers Group, headquartered in Nashville, TN, is a 115-year-old privately held aggregates and asphalt highway construction company with quarry and asphalt operations in 9 states and 3,000 employees. The company is the largest privately held crushed stone producer in the United States.

About the role

We are seeking a Groundsman for our Virginia SMA operations in Roanoke, VA. The successful candidate will be motivated with an uncompromising focus on safety excellence.

Responsibilities

• General plant/mine labor and clean-up of production areas, including shoveling stone from around conveyors and assisting with plant clean-up and operations.
• Train in various other entry-level production positions and fill in as needed during vacations, absences, and increased production demand.
• Operate heavy equipment to support operations as needed.
• Run water truck to control dust on roadways.
• Report equipment problems and identify them to management; help maintain quarry and equipment.
• Perform light maintenance work and maintain belt lines.
• Complete daily inspections and equipment pre-shift reports, if applicable.
• Assist other workers as needed or directed and perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Self-motivated individual able to perform required duties without constant supervision.
• Able to perform a variety of duties, including plant clean-up, maintenance, operating equipment, and other tasks as assigned.
• Previous experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., skid steer, haul truck, excavator, or loader) preferred.
• Ability to learn quickly and understand basic safety and work instructions.
• Willingness to work weekends and overtime.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
• Able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration form.

Qualifications

• Maintenance experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with aggregate operations is a plus.
• Cutting and welding experience is a plus.

Pay

Wages start at $18.00/hr. for entry-level candidates. Higher pay for skilled operators of heavy equipment with quarry and mining experience. Overtime available.
