Primary Responsibilities
- Participates in the pre-job meeting with the Foreman to be informed of the job site and any potential site hazards.
- Assists using hand lines to lower limbs and equipment.
- Loads and unloads trucks with logs, brush and debris.
- Feeds brush into brush chipper.
- Carry, lay out and stow materials, tools and equipment at work site.
- Works from the ground using handsaws and pole saws.
- Drives trucks or operates other equipment as assigned, if licensed.
- Keeps trucks and other assigned equipment in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Reports the need for repairs to truck and equipment to Crew Leader.
- Ensures the appropriate security of all tools, equipment, supplies and materials.
- Maintains strict punctuality at starting and ending times, break and lunch periods.
- Observes all safety rules strictly and helps ensure that fellow workers observe all safety rules.
- Performs high quality, technically proficient work.
- Maintains good housekeeping by keeping trucks, assigned equipment and work area in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Safeguards Associates and public from hazards in and around the work area, and stays in frequent verbal communication with workers on aloft.
- Alerts the Foreman of any potential problems anticipated or observed.
- Observes all company policies and procedures including dress standards.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Some knowledge of current trends and practices of the arbor industry.
Required License/Certification
- A valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance are preferred, but not required.
Education/Experience
- 1+ years of experience in tree work or landscaping (tree experience preferred).
- Experience using hand tools and powered tools safely (rakes, blowers, saws as assigned) and performing jobsite setup and cleanup.
- Experience supporting pruning/removal operations on the ground: brush handling, staging, hauling/loading, and maintaining safe work zones.
- Experience working around chippers and moving equipment is preferred; must be able to follow training and safety procedures.
- Demonstrated reliability working on a crew, following direction, and communicating clearly in a fast-paced work environment.
Physical Requirements
- Constant standing, sitting, walking, stooping, squatting, bending, twisting, traversing uneven ground, reaching, grasping and gripping (hand tools and equipment).
- Getting in and out of vehicles throughout the day.
- Lifting or carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
- Working outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions.
- Hearing verbal instructions from a distance.
- Wearing all personal protective equipment according to company Safety Health and Environmental Policies, Industry Related ANSI Safety Requirements and OSHA Regulations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hot and cold temperatures, sudden changes in temperatures, varying levels of noise, slippery surfaces, rain, dust/dirt, fumes, wind, uneven ground and landscaped slopes.
EQUIPMENT/MACHINERY
- Chippers, stump grinders and back-pack blowers.
- A wide range of hand tools including but not limited to: loppers, shears, pruners, hand saw, leaf rake, pole pruner, pole saw, push broom and shovel.
