Groundskeeper (Full-time)

About the role

Under the general supervision of the Grounds Supervisor, the Groundskeeper maintains college grounds, including lawns, shrubbery, trees, flower beds, snow removal, and operation of machinery and equipment. The role also involves assisting with athletic field maintenance and preparing college grounds for events. The Groundskeeper supports the college’s learning initiatives by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance of Lawns: Cut grass, use weed eaters, plant and remove trees or shrubbery, apply water-soluble fertilizer, and scout for diseases in flowers, trees, and shrubs.
• Removal of Snow: Plow parking lots and perimeter roads, shovel sidewalks and walkways, and load/unload 50 lb. salt boxes for salting.
• Operation of Equipment: Utilize machinery such as sweepers, mowers, and forklifts.
• Care of New and Existing Flower Beds: Water plants, weed beds, and maintain healthy growing conditions.
• Preparation for College Events: Set up tables and chairs, provide trash receptacles, post signage, pick up litter, cut grass, and clean areas before and after events.
• Maintenance of Athletic Fields: Assist the Athletic Field Groundskeeper as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in grounds/nursery, lawn maintenance, or related field.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify as insurable by the college’s liability insurance carrier.
• Current spray license as required by state/federal law or ability to obtain one through training.
• Ability to perform physical duties, including standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with on-call availability as needed for this on-campus role.

Pay

$19.54–$20.85 per hour.
