Initial Location: BGHS – 40 hours per week, 12-month assignment.
Salary
$27.64 per hour (Grade I, MMS14, Step 1). Salary schedule is listed in the CMA agreement.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, secure, attractive, and clean outdoor environment for students, staff, and the public.
- Perform cleaning, snow removal, and operation/maintenance of grounds equipment.
- Set up outdoor sports and other activities; complete special projects as assigned.
- Ensure proper application, storage, and use of all grounds-related chemicals and fuels.
- Operate and maintain grounds equipment and systems safely and efficiently.
- Plant, fertilize, spray, prune, mow, trim, and maintain lawns, flowers, shrubs, trees, and exterior finishes.
- Layout and set up athletic fields according to current IHSA rules and regulations; maintain fields in good condition.
- Perform snow removal and salting; keep grounds and parking areas clean and orderly.
- Maintain, clean, and store tools, equipment, and vehicles; secure school equipment to prevent unauthorized use.
- Perform inside work as directed by supervisor.
- Monitor and report potential trouble spots in building systems and equipment to prevent failures.
- Observe and comply with required codes; identify and address potential safety and health issues.
- Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Project a positive image of the District to students, staff, and the public.
- Report observed misuses and needed repairs of school property in writing to supervisor.
- Participate in District-sponsored training programs to maintain/update knowledge, skills, certifications, and licenses.
- Communicate effectively and respond appropriately to District-provided electronic communications.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Maintained regular attendance with no occurrences of attendance abuse during the previous two years (per Article 13 Section E of the current agreement).
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately, demonstrating patience and understanding with students, staff, and the public.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to use prescribed safety and personal protective equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. frequently and up to 80 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to perform difficult physical labor in variable weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc.).
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders frequently; work from scaffolding and lifts occasionally.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach while performing assignments and operating related equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
- Knowledge, skills, and physical ability in landscape work and athletic field maintenance.
- Knowledge, skills, and physical ability to operate tractors, mowers, trucks, and other vehicles/equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to properly care for and maintain grounds-keeping machinery and equipment.
- Current Illinois Department of Agriculture operator’s license.
- Successfully completed a District-recognized course in grounds maintenance and a District-recognized course in IHSA rules and regulations for athletic field layout (or equivalent training/work experience approved by the District Training Committee).
