Groundskeeper Associate
About the Role
The Groundskeeper Associate is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the landscaping and grounds portion of the Maintenance Department at The Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove (BGTC) in Asheville, North Carolina. This role ensures professional and high-quality work is completed efficiently and cost-effectively, contributing to a distraction-free, beautiful, and safe facility for guests.
The Property Services department includes Building Maintenance, Technical Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance, Safety Program, RV Volunteer Ministry, Energy Management, and Project Management. The department’s mission is "Preparing this Place for People to Meet with God."
Ministry Requirements
- Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Him.
- Faithfully upholds BGEA in prayer.
- Participates in daily BGEA staff devotions, including Bible reading and leading group prayer as scheduled.
- Demonstrates behavior aligned with BGEA’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Hallmarks, policies, and expectations.
- Effectively represents Jesus Christ within both personal and professional spheres of influence.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties
- Provide professional and high-quality work in the day-to-day maintenance of the grounds of The Billy Graham Training Center.
- Perform duties with diligence, productive effort, and planning in communications and task execution.
- Coordinate positively with the Supervisor and communicate needs for materials and equipment.
- Implement general landscaping and groundskeeping practices.
- Follow directions from the Supervisor and discern when assistance is needed for routine decisions.
- Commit to the implementation of the Safety Program, including using only trained equipment, wearing personal protective equipment, and reading material safety data sheets for chemicals.
- Wear safety belts when using vehicles.
- Work as a team member in an edifying and encouraging manner for the good of the department.
- Represent the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association with the highest integrity.

Requirements
Skills and Knowledge
- Performance of work with the highest degree of quality and workmanship.
- Some knowledge of the operational use of maintenance and construction equipment, tools, and safety equipment.
- General knowledge of and ability to follow BGEA’s policies and procedures.
- Basic reading and mathematical skills normally acquired through completion of high school.
- General knowledge of the property to communicate positively with the public and emergency personnel.
Physical/Mental Demands
- Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
- Ability to be mobile in and out of a vehicle to perform maintenance and project operations.
- Heavy lifting and long periods of strenuous activity are required.
- Ability to drive a vehicle.
- Ability to receive direction from supervisors and management, focus it into appropriate action, and communicate back to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Working Conditions
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons of the year.

Benefits
Associate or Seasonal employees working up to 19 hours a week (not to exceed 1,000 hours a year) are not eligible for benefits.
