Grounds Maintenance

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleanup, cutting, trimming, and edging of all grassed areas and lawns.
• Maintain flowers, shrubs, tree beds, and replacement thereof.
• Complete general leaf clean-up, tree pruning, tree removal, sod installation, seeding, fertilizing, liming, thatching, aerating, irrigation, erosion control, watering, and back-filling.
• Handle materials (e.g., loading, unloading, digging, hauling, hoisting, carrying, wrapping, mixing, pouring, spreading).
• Wash and clean cars, trucks, and department equipment; clean grounds and other areas; perform general maintenance work by hand or using common hand-tools and power equipment.
• Provide routine maintenance and minor repairs to ground structures such as improved and unimproved roads, parking areas, sidewalks, fences, retaining walls, storm drainage ditches, window wells, and catch basins.
• Perform heavy weather services including snow removal.
• Collect and dispose of refuse; provide services necessary to cope with emergencies such as accidents, natural disasters, equipment breakdowns, floods in buildings from roof leaks, overflowed restroom fixtures, sinks, sprinkler systems, water pipes, and other utilities.
• Analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good condition; plan and organize assignments effectively.
• Present a professional, positive, and helpful attitude when interacting with customers, co-workers, and supervision.
• Maintain effective communication with management, employees, and customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship.
• Ability to obtain and maintain base access.
• Submit to and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years within the past five years in commercial grounds maintenance.
