GROUNDS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

About the Role

Join the team responsible for maintaining the 419-acre UCLA campus, renowned as one of the most beautiful campuses in California with expansive lawns, brick-lined walkways, courtyards, plazas, gardens, and athletic fields. As a team member, you will provide a variety of outdoor maintenance services to maintain and preserve the health and beauty of the campus.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium to heavy power grounds equipment safely and effectively.
• Use power-driven equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, forklifts, jackhammers, and cranes, as well as various hand tools.
• Perform planting of shrubs and trees using proper methods.
• Work collaboratively as part of a team and follow through on assignments independently.
• Respond to off-hour emergencies, work overtime, and weekends as required.
• Perform tasks under conditions of fluctuating workload, interruptions, distractions, and deadlines.
• Adhere to standard safe work practices and maintain working knowledge of outdoor work conditions, including exposure to wet/humid weather and extreme temperatures.
• Perform physical tasks including standing, crawling, walking, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting or lowering objects up to 50 lbs. independently and up to 80 lbs. with assistance.

Requirements

• One-year experience in the operation of medium to heavy power grounds equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)
• Skills in reading standard English text to follow written orders and carry out assignments. (Required)
• Oral communication skills to convey clear, concise, and grammatically correct information. (Required)
• Valid California noncommercial Class C driver’s license upon hire and maintained throughout employment. (Required)
• Forklift Certification 100. (Required)
• Backhoe Certification 100. (Required)
• Must be 18 years or older to be eligible for hire. (Required)

Special Conditions for Employment

• Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
• Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory pre-placement physical examination.
• Position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System," and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.

Pay

UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, and certifications, among other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common.
