Under the supervision of the area General Foreperson, this position is responsible for switching, maintenance, and construction of substation equipment including implementation of all necessary protective measures for preventative and reactive maintenance duties and performing routine substation inspections. Provides an efficient and safe work environment for employees and contractors in strict accordance with all customer and company practices and procedures along with leadership for all Operator/EMJ apprentices.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all work from the ground.
  • Clears work area around structures.
  • Excavates to assist in the installation of structures or cable as required by contract specification.
  • Has contact with public and private property owners to communicate work to be performed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Foreperson relating to utility line work.
  • Assembles material on the ground to be installed by the lineperson or apprentice.
  • Flags traffic.
  • Operates various tools for the work (various manual digging devices, wrenches, hammers, come-a-long, jack hammer, and hand line, etc.).
  • Working hours will extend into night and may exceed an eight-hour day.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and/or MVR check.

Physical Requirements

  • Rare (up to 10%): stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing poles, reading, reaching, color vision, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, balancing, lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasional (up to 33%): sitting, kneeling, body twisting, sense of touch, seeing distant, climbing on/off truck, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., range of motion, depth perception, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent (up to 66%): standing, walking, manual dexterity, gripping, lifting, carrying.
  • Continuous (up to 100%): speaking clearly, seeing, hearing-speech range.
