Groundman - Underground (DUKE)

About the role

The Underground Groundman is an entry-level position responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This position involves working at various locations and may require travel to another state based on customer demands.

Responsibilities

• Set up pad mount transformers.
• Work safely around energized high voltage systems.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
• Perform rigorous physical labor.
• Use company radio and understand basic rigging and knot tying.
• Understand and use hand tools.
• Receive and follow directions.
• Identify primary and secondary voltage on circuits.
• Assist with the installation and hook-up of single-phase transformers.
• Perform basic bucket rescue/escape.
• Understand equipment setup and grounding.
• Work at heights and/or confined spaces.
• Inspect voltage on transformers.
• Install and remove service.
• Inspect and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Climb different types of structures using appropriate tools.
• Work in underground trenches and manholes.
• Identify different types of materials used in line work.
• Work outside in various weather conditions.
• Willing to work overtime and flexible hours.

Requirements

• No prior experience necessary.
• Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days of employment.
• A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred.
• Able to travel long distances on short notice.
• Able to work for extended periods in various locations.
• Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
• Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
• Willing to work over-time when requested.
• Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, and feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
