Ground Person

Job Summary

The Ground Person supports the daily operations of the Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) plant. This role performs general labor duties, assists with plant maintenance, and ensures a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.

This role requires a strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality in a fast-paced or labor-intensive environment. Safety is paramount, and the position involves working at elevations and around hot materials.

Responsibilities

• Protect family and friends by following safety policies and procedures, performing daily workplace exams, and working safely at all times.
• Maintain continuous material flow and production by monitoring plant systems and communicating or addressing issues that could impact operations.
• Prevent downtime and maintain a safe work environment by performing housekeeping and removing debris or material buildup from equipment and plant areas.
• Maximize plant uptime by supporting maintenance activities, including staging materials and tools, cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
• Support team coordination and equipment reliability by following direction, communicating effectively, and ensuring proper use and care of tools and equipment.

Requirements, Education And Experience

• Experience operating heavy equipment strongly preferred.
• Willingness to work variable shifts (days/nights), weekends, and overtime as needed.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and troubleshoot basic equipment or system issues.
• Strong communication skills with proficiency in verbal and written English.
• Demonstrated strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality in a fast-paced or labor-intensive environment.
• Commitment to safety and ability to consistently follow established policies, procedures, and instructions.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, take direction, and contribute to overall plant operations.
• Prior experience in construction, aggregates, asphalt, or a similar industrial environment preferred (but not required); loader operation experience is a plus.

Other Duties

• May require up to 5% travel by personal vehicle to offices throughout the state of New York, and New England based on the needs of the business.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

• Medium to heavy work, requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
• Regular exposure to heat, dust, noise, and moving mechanical equipment.
• Employees may be required to work at elevated heights and around hot materials.
• Exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
• Extended periods of standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and performing repetitive manual tasks such as shoveling and raking.
