About the Role

The Grooming Salon Leader oversees salon operations and a team of groomers while delivering expert grooming services. This position drives customer satisfaction, fosters a positive work environment, and develops both entry‑level and seasoned groomers. The leader also performs professional grooming tasks, ensuring the safety, comfort, and well‑being of every pet.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day salon operations, optimize scheduling and capacity, manage inventory, and execute staffing plans.
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise entry‑level to professional groomers; provide coaching, feedback, performance evaluations, and foster a collaborative, growth‑focused environment.
• Create and manage efficient grooming schedules that balance team availability with customer demand and ensure coverage during peak hours.
• Monitor salon performance metrics (revenue, customer satisfaction, partner productivity), analyze data, and develop improvement action plans.
• Collaborate with store management to achieve sales targets and salon objectives, implementing strategies to drive growth and profitability.
• Interact professionally with pet parents, delivering exceptional service, answering grooming inquiries, offering recommendations, and resolving concerns promptly.
• Stay current on grooming industry trends and best practices to enhance personal and team skills.
• Perform professional grooming services—including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning—according to pet‑parent instructions and breed standards.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Evaluate each pet’s individual needs, considering coat type, skin condition, and temperament.
• Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance, home‑care practices, and product recommendations.
• Ensure the safety and well‑being of every animal, monitoring for discomfort, illness, or injury and reporting concerns to owners and store management.
• Perform quality checks, disinfect and sanitize tools, and conduct daily/weekly cleaning of the salon in line with Petco hygiene policies, including cleaning air filters, vents, and drains.
• Apply Petco grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to maintain safety, quality, and consistency, holding team members accountable for compliance.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional grooming experience or completion of a technical grooming training program.
• Strong leadership abilities; 1–2 years of salon‑management or related experience preferred.
• High‑school diploma or GED preferred (not required).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behaviors.
• Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
• Genuine passion for animals and a commitment to a career in pet grooming.
• Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills; ability to handle moderately complex situations with guidance as needed
