Grooming Salon Leader, Petsense

About the role

This position is responsible for leading the operations of the grooming salon, achieving targeted goals and driving results to grow the business. This includes overseeing daily operations of the salon, training and coaching staff, and providing exceptional customer service to all pet parents and their pets.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Groom Shop, including scheduling, safety checklists, and salon audits
  • Ensure all grooming SOPs and salon are audit compliant and cleanliness standards are adhered to at all times
  • Place monthly supply orders with the approval of the Store Manager, staying within the monthly salon budget
  • Assist in hiring and onboarding all new Groomers and Groom Technicians, including ensuring timely completion of all training requirements, mentoring, and evaluating potential and current employee grooming skills
  • Communicate all daily/weekly communication to the salon team and Store Manager, including sales performance
  • Schedule weekly meetings with the Store Manager to discuss staffing, schedules, prior week's plan, and forecast business review
  • Drive salon growth by calling existing and new customers, scheduling appointments, making follow-up phone calls and reminders to customers, attending community events, holding in-store events, and working with rescue groups
  • Lead salon team members by driving professional development, coaching for improvement, and reviewing performance key metrics
  • Provide professional grooming services for dogs using knowledge of grooming styles and techniques
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of animals, including inspecting animals for external signs of parasites, disease, or injury and reporting findings to pet owners
  • Practice safety and sanitization protocols, including sanitizing and maintaining upkeep of all grooming tools and equipment
  • Maintain records of all pet clients, including services provided and vaccination records

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills in the grooming industry with a minimum of 2+ years of experience grooming pets under the leadership of a professional groomer
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Must be comfortable working with dogs and cats
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and compassion for animals
  • Must provide own tools (clippers, blades, shears) or be willing to purchase required tools
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Working Conditions

The working environment is generally favorable, with moderate noise, and indoor floors and outdoor lots are hard surfaces. There is exposure to wet conditions, sharp grooming instruments, perfumed shampoos and soaps, pets, and pet waste. Work shifts vary, but are generally no less than 4 hours and may exceed 10 hours.

Physical Requirements

This position is non-sedentary and requires the ability to move and transfer live animals, equipment, and merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds. The ability to utilize grooming instruments, including shears and dryers, and to lift and carry pets weighing up to 75 pounds is also required. The position requires frequent movement around the salon, standing, twisting, bending, kneeling, crouching, stooping, and squatting to position oneself to groom and bathe animals.
