Groomer

About the Role

As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will provide professional grooming services to our customers' pets, ensuring each pet receives exceptional care and leaves looking and feeling their best. This role is ideal for groomers with proven technical experience looking to grow their expertise and productivity.

Responsibilities

• Perform grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, adhering to breed standards and customer instructions.
• Operate and maintain grooming tools such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Prioritize pet safety, monitor for discomfort or illness, and report concerns to pet owners and management.
• Interact professionally with pet parents, address inquiries, offer recommendations, and educate on at-home care.
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, disinfect tools, and perform daily/weekly cleaning duties.
• Support and supervise entry-level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader.

Qualifications

• Completion of Petco’s Pet Stylist Apprentice program or previous professional grooming experience/technical training.
• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Ability to handle routine to moderately complex grooming situations with some guidance.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high grooming standards.
• Passion for animals and a desire to continue a career in pet grooming.
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, and common health issues.
• Proficiency in breed-specific cuts and styling techniques.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.

Work Environment

The role is primarily conducted indoors in the grooming salon. The environment can be noisy and wet, requiring bending, kneeling, lifting, and standing for extended periods. Exposure to heights using ladders or tools may be necessary for cleaning and maintenance tasks.
