Grocery Dept Manager In Training
Summary
The Management in Training (MIT) position is a transitional role designed to prepare employees for promotion to Grocery Department Manager. Trainees may progress to a management position within 3 - 5 months, contingent on their prior experience and performance.
Responsibilities
Overall Department Operation – Oversee product preparation, display, distribution, and inventory control to enhance sales and efficiency.
Customer Service – Ensure excellent customer service, address issues promptly, and engage with customer feedback to optimize service.
Sales & Financial Performance – Achieve sales and margin targets, control labor and stock losses, and meet financial projections.
PICount & System Usage – Track product sales and inventory using company systems, ensuring accuracy and efficient inventory counts.
Employee Evaluation & Development – Supervise, delegate tasks, provide feedback, and recommend disciplinary actions, transfers, and promotions.
Omni & HQ Support – Assist with Omni channel services, accounting, administrative duties, and marketing initiatives, including efficient marking plans.
Ordering & Receiving – Place orders according to company guidelines, verify product quality and quantity upon receipt.
Stocking & Processing – Distribute and rotate stock using FIFO methods, trim, pack, and label products accurately.
Display – Manage product displays, signage, and promotional materials to drive sales and marketing initiatives.
Compliance, Loss Prevention, & Reporting – Safeguard store assets, enforce company policies, and report incidents to relevant authorities.
Safety – Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment, comply with safety codes, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Sustainability – Manage product expiration dates, reorder products on time, and replenish shelves to meet customer demand.
Promotion & Demo – Plan and execute promotion events, set prices, and arrange demonstrations as necessary.
Qualifications
- 1 year of supervisory experience in the grocery department or equivalent.
- Bilingual in English/Mandarin, English/Cantonese, or English/Spanish is preferred.
- Ability to work assigned schedules, including weekends and holidays.
- Currently possess or have the ability to obtain a Food Handler’s certificate.
