Grinder

About the role

Grinder operates electric or pneumatic hand grinders, as well as other heavy manufacturing equipment to clean pre-welded parts, welded parts, and steel parts. This position adheres to all safety guidelines. Grinders work under the direction of the Production Leader and other manufacturing leaders.

Responsibilities

• Utilize 5-8lbs electric or pneumatic hand grinders to clean pre-welded parts, welded parts, and steel parts
• May utilize a 40lbs magnetic drill to bore holes
• Lift material and parts; transfer and load parts to correct manufacturing department location
• Assist team members with moving and handling parts, manually or by crane use
• Perform other manual work including cleanup activities, garbage removal, facility painting, and snow removal when requested
• Change consumables as needed and perform required safety inspections on equipment
• Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Actively participate in cross training and continuous improvement assignments
• Work cooperatively with coworkers including training and knowledge sharing
• Learn new skills, techniques and equipment operation as assigned
• Maintain clean and organized work area conditions and comply with safety requirements
• Receive direction from team lead and other designated leader
• Perform work in a safe manner, complete all required safety inspections and adhere to safety rules and guidelines including safely operate crane and/or forklift if trained and assigned
• Maintain conformance with safety rules and regulations; if unclear of or uncomfortable with a safety process, make supervisor aware
• Immediately address or make management aware of any safety related issue or concern
• Involved with continuous improvement efforts regarding all aspects of safety
• May work overtime as production needs require
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with management and co-workers
• Must be able to understand English language and be understood
• Must be able to work with minimum supervision

Physical demands

• Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately
• Physical activity includes walking, standing, sitting, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching above shoulders, and lifting up to 50 pounds
• If work demands require lifting more than 50 pounds, use of a mechanical device or initiation of a two-person lift is required

Work environment

• Perform activities in a well-lighted and well-ventilated area
• May be subject to changes in temperature and exposure to above normal noise levels, electrical equipment, and chemicals

• 1st Shift: 6:00AM – 2:30PM
• 2nd Shift: 2:00PM – 10:30PM
