About the role

Provides engineering analysis and technical support to ensure continuing reliable operations of the electric power grid in compliance with NERC Standards, ERCOT Protocols, and Market Guides. Offers electrical engineering analysis and technical support for the planning and operation of the electric power system. Implements system modeling, develops tools and procedures to monitor and control the system, performs system studies, analyzes simulated or actual operating results, develops solutions to current or future system issues, and reports findings and recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Understands basic principles, theories, and concepts related to the profession and applies them within the ERCOT culture.
  • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data.
  • Contributes to specific objectives and outcomes as directed.
  • Develops and prototypes tools to assist control room Operators, Outage Coordinators, Operations, and Planning Engineers in data analysis and visualization for grid reliability.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for system performance standards and contributes to the development strategy for tools and applications used by ERCOT Operations and Planning.
  • Interacts with Project Teams to implement new tools and system changes in production environments.
  • Develops operational awareness and analytical tools for System Operators in the control room.
  • Investigates, analyzes, and develops data displays for System Operators.
  • Develops new and existing analytical tools for Engineers and Coordinators to maintain system reliability.
  • Provides documentation and guidance to Project teams for deploying new tools.
  • Develops training materials and provides guidance for training development.
  • Enhances vendor applications through software changes, process improvements, and training.
  • Investigates, evaluates, and benchmarks new display and tool technologies.
  • Develops test scripts and tests the functionality of tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (required). A combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge may substitute.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification (preferred).
  • Experience levels:
    • Level 2 Engineer: Minimum 1 year of job-related work experience beyond degree requirements.
    • Level 3 Engineer: Minimum 3 years of job-related work experience beyond degree requirements.
    • Senior Engineer: Minimum 5 years of job-related work experience beyond degree requirements.
    • Lead Engineer: Minimum 8 years of job-related work experience beyond degree requirements.
  • Experience within the electric utility industry (preferred).

Skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Programming languages and frameworks: JavaScript, Vue.js, Angular, Python, C#, Single Page Apps, PL/SQL, SQL, VBA, or other scripting languages.
  • Mapping software: ArcGIS or Mapbox.
  • Development experience, including gathering business requirements.
  • Front-end, middle-tier, and back-end development.

Location

Work location is Taylor, TX. Employees must be on-site at least 2 days per week, with flexibility based on business needs. Remote work must be performed from a Texas residence. Employees may opt to work on-site more frequently or full-time.

Pay

Expected salary range: $87,000 - $120,000. Salary and level will be determined based on overall experience.
