About the role

Winchester Hospital is a 5x Magnet designated, Top 10 Massachusetts recognized 223-bed regional hospital that is the leading provider of comprehensive health care services in the northwest suburban Boston area. As part of the Volunteer Department team, this position plays a key role in patient and visitor experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and others in a timely, professional, kind, respectful, and empathetic manner.
• Provide assistance with entry/exit doors.
• Manage patient flow for Registration by:
  • Instructing patients waiting to register.
  • Signing patients in on the outpatient registration log, as needed.
  • Keeping track of the order of patients needing to register and for what service.
  • Offering support to registration and screening staff.
• Manage and maintain flow of patients into the Emergency Room.
• Direct individuals to their desired location.
• Provide general information regarding the Hospital, services, and other details to improve the patient care experience.
• Accept flower, gift, and food deliveries for patients and staff; request transport as needed.
• Accept patient belongings, including bagging, labeling, and recording of belongings.
• Communicate with patient care units and other departments/individuals about arrival status; request transport as needed.
• Act as a liaison between departments/patient care units and visitors.
• Provide patient families/friends with appropriate contact information for the patient’s location.
• Assist in coordination of visitation.
• Explain and enforce hospital policies for patients, families, and visitors.
• Assist in calling cabs, family, or friends to secure a ride home from the hospital.
• Organize and update messages, notices, or announcements at the desk.
• Oversee and train screener staff, including orienting them to the hospital.
• Perform other clerical duties as workflow allows, such as sorting, collating materials, stuffing envelopes, and attaching labels for mailings.
• Follow protocols and policies for all entering the building, including hand sanitizing, masking, and social distancing.
• Represent the hospital professionally by being neat and pleasant at all times.

Requirements

• Follow all hospital protocols and policies, including vaccination against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.88 per hour. Actual compensation is determined based on factors such as seniority, education, training, relevant experience, certifications, geography, job responsibilities, shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime, and other applicable factors permissible by law.
