GRCS Eagles Ice Center Assistant Manager

Hourly or salaried position reporting to the General Manager.

About the role

The Assistant Manager supports the daily operations of the ice center, ensuring a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for guests, staff, and program participants. This role assists with staff supervision, event coordination, customer service, and facility maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in day-to-day arena operations, youth and adult hockey programs, tournaments, and special events
• Supervise and support part-time staff
• Ensure high standards of customer service and respond to guest inquiries, concerns, and incidents
• Maintain facility cleanliness, safety standards, and equipment functionality
• Handle ice maintenance, facility and equipment repairs, and daily janitorial routines
• Assist with cash handling and basic financial reporting
• Ensure collection and documentation of registrations and fees
• Implement seasonal facility refurbishment projects
• Monitor and enforce arena policies and safety procedures
• Act as Manager on Duty in the absence of the General Manager

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
• 1–3 years of experience in recreation management, sports facilities, or customer service
• Previous supervisory experience preferred
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work flexible hours, long shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Basic knowledge of ice arena operations and safety procedures is a plus
• Valid Michigan driver’s license for Zamboni operation

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Capability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Comfortable working in a cold environment
