GRCMS Spanish Immersion Teacher (5th-8th grade) & Program Coordinator

1.0 FTE position at Grand Rapids Christian Middle School reporting to the Building Principal.

About the Role

The middle school Spanish Immersion Teacher and Coordinator is responsible for communicating and executing the vision of Spanish Immersion in each building. The role involves distributed leadership as part of the districtwide Spanish Immersion Professional Learning Team (PLT) to ensure vertical alignment in program vision, curriculum, development, and student and parent communication.

The teacher also teaches Advanced Spanish courses to students in grades 5–8 and teaches Bible in Spanish to 6th grade Spanish Immersion students.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a member of the districtwide Spanish Immersion PLT to ensure vertical alignment in program vision, curriculum, development, and communication with students and parents.
• Collaborate with other coordinators to assess best practices, identify barriers to change, build staff consensus, and prioritize steps to reallocate resources for program success.
• Teach Advanced Spanish to 6th–8th grade Spanish Immersion students, delivering a challenging curriculum to help students grow in Spanish proficiency on the ACTFL scale.
• Lead curriculum writing, revision, and alignment in coordination with the district.
• Oversee Spanish Immersion initiatives such as SI Chapel, field trips, service opportunities, student exchange programs, and celebrations.
• Serve as a professional representative of GRCS by pursuing growth through visits to model schools, attending and presenting at conferences, creating an online presence, and building community partnerships.
• Advocate for Spanish Immersion students and work with the building principal to manage program details, including budget, policies, and educational support.

Qualifications

• Valid state teaching certificate with an endorsement in Spanish and Bilingual Education.
• Professional-level proficiency in Spanish and English, including strong oral and written communication skills in both languages.
• Specialized experience in language immersion pedagogy.
