We also own the largest Telemundo Affiliate group, with 46 markets, and Gray Digital Media, a full-service digital agency offering national and local clients digital marketing strategies and advanced digital products and services. Western Mass News (WGGB) is a licensed television station in Springfield, Massachusetts, serving the Pioneer Valley. As the 2024 Massachusetts Broadcasters' Association Station of the Year Merit Award Winner, our networks—ABC 40, Fox 6, and CBS 3—along with our digital platform, reach over half of Western Massachusetts and area businesses daily. We produce the most live programming in the region, including all major live sporting events.
About the role
This is a 10-week immersive training program designed for the next generation of media professionals—producers, reporters, weather experts, and sales executives. You won’t just shadow; you’ll own real-world assignments that may go on air or online. The program is digital-first, fast-paced, and hands-on, offering a direct path to full-time career opportunities within Gray Media’s network of 117 stations.
Responsibilities
- Step into the role of a producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive and handle real-world assignments that may be published on air or online.
- Drive digital engagement by creating content for social media, streaming apps, and web stories.
- Collaborate with seasoned professionals to gain insights and build your skills.
- Commit to 25 hours per week for 10 weeks to master your specialty and build a professional-grade portfolio.
- Tell stories that matter to the community or help local businesses grow through innovative media strategies.
- Position yourself for full-time career opportunities within Gray Media’s network.
Requirements
- Current enrollment in a college or university, preferably in your junior or senior year, pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
- A "doer" mindset with a willingness to take initiative and get hands-on experience.
- Digital savvy and an understanding of how media operates across platforms, from TV to mobile.
- Strong work ethic, organization, and a "can-do" attitude.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to tell a story, pitch an idea, or explain a forecast clearly and confidently.
- Reliability and commitment to the full 10-week program and 25-hour weekly schedule.
- Passion for local media and community impact.
- Goal to work in broadcast television, with a desire for hands-on experience in the local media industry.
