About the role
The City of Sioux Falls Communications and Culture team is seeking a Graphic Designer to help visualize strategic communications and operational support for all City departments. This role focuses on creating clear, informative, and modern designs that align with brand standards while amplifying the stories of how City employees shape the community. Responsibilities
- Create professional and effective graphic solutions using design software such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
- Develop graphic concepts, execute designs, and determine appropriate layouts.
- Access and utilize stock images and graphics from approved sources for print and digital use while adhering to copyright rules.
- Proofread deliverables and provide excellent customer service while maintaining project expectations and deadlines.
- Perform post-press duties, including cutting, laminating, operating folding machines, binding, mounting items on foam core, and assembling/collating materials.
- Operate printers, scanners, copiers, and braille embossing equipment.
- Create mail merge files for lists, personalized letters, labels, and envelopes.
- Utilize project management software to track project status, record time worked, and resolve work requests in a timely manner.
- Perform additional duties as necessary or incidental to the role.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school or GED certification with a minimum of three (3) years’ post-secondary education and/or experience in graphic design, graphic arts, or a related field.
- Knowledge of print shop and print production processes and equipment.
- Proficiency in graphic design principles, typography techniques, design trends, and color theory.
- Ability to prioritize user requests in the absence of leadership.
- Skill in layout design, typography, and graphically portraying verbal concepts using a variety of fonts and lettering techniques.
- Ability to type, format, and proofread a wide range of materials accurately and efficiently.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong command of proper business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Ability to follow complex directions and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
- Experience using project management software for Communications and Culture projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and provide excellent customer service.
- Commitment to maintaining the quality of work and the confidentiality and integrity of the team.
- Ability to perform close visual work.
