Graphic Design Intern

About the role

Responsible for creating structural and graphic packaging and display samples to assist Sales Representatives in sales promotions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and finalize customer-supplied art files in strict compliance with print standards (flexographic, lithographic, and digital) across various corrugated structures.
  • Collaborate with clients, sales, customer service, and management to develop and refine design concepts into functional deliverables.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of specifications, print cards, and project files.
  • Manage projects and priorities to ensure timely delivery.
  • Produce physical samples and prototypes (via Kongsberg CAD table or manual methods).
  • Discuss packaging or display projects with GM or Sales and execute design ideas using Artios, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D rendering tools as needed.
  • Formulate and communicate ideas for new artwork, analyzing customer needs and production feasibility.
  • Provide camera-ready art when applicable.
  • Assist Die Coordinator (or Purchasing Manager) to ensure proper plate ordering and master print card management.
  • Handle various art-related projects for company management.
  • Make samples on CAD table or cut samples by hand.
  • Maintain record-keeping and filing of specifications.
  • Meet time schedules on projects, with possible overtime involved.
  • Create production specifications from prototypes.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and housekeeping.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by director and associate director.

Requirements

  • College education or heavy coursework in computers, CAD, graphics, and drafting, or applicable work experience.
  • Good communication skills with customers and sales staff.
  • Knowledge of Artios, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once.
  • Effective collaboration skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new production processes.
  • Drafting education or experience.

Skills

  • Able to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
  • Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume, and rate.
  • Able to apply concepts of high school math.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving one or more concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
  • Understanding of product layouts and production specifications.
  • Familiarity with product quality specifications and quality standards.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Lift and move corrugated sheets as necessary.
  • Lift and move cutting and printing dies as necessary.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
