Grants and Financial Manager
Brown University School of Public Health is seeking two Grants and Financial Managers to lead financial and research administration for two of its four administrative core units.
About the role
In this pivotal leadership role, you will provide high-level grant financial management, including detailed budgetary planning, sophisticated financial analysis, and comprehensive oversight of research administration for two of the School’s most active research areas. Responsibilities include managing a complex portfolio of post-award accounts, faculty relationships, and leading a team of grants specialists. You will maintain and architect efficient systems to support sponsored awards, ensure rigorous financial control, and maintain absolute compliance with University and federal guidelines.
As part of the Finance and Administration Team, you will foster an environment of excellence through partnership, professional development, and an engaging work environment. This role includes mentoring and supervising a dedicated team of grants administration staff.
This position is hybrid-eligible with an expectation of 3 or more days in the office. All offers of employment are contingent upon a criminal background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown University.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-level financial management support, including budgetary and financial planning and analysis, research administration, payroll reconciliation, purchasing oversight, and account management.
- Coordinate the effort certification process, process salary reallocations and costings, and develop financial planning strategies.
- Manage and supervise grants administration staff.
- Maintain and architect efficient systems to support sponsored awards, ensuring compliance with University and federal guidelines.
- Oversee a complex portfolio of post-award accounts and faculty relationships.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least five to seven years of financial and budget experience, preferably in an academic setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Direct experience in financial management, including budget management, reporting, financial modeling, and financial analysis.
- Experience with policy implementation and research administration, including familiarity with all relevant policies and procedures.
- Experience managing staff preferred.
- Grant accounting experience required.
- Proven accounting skills, including the ability to analyze and reconcile accounts.
Skills

- Proficiency with Microsoft and GSuite Programs; FileMaker and Workday experience preferred.
