About the role

The Accounting Department’s function is to pay, post, receive, balance, and reconcile the Tribal financial records. The department operates as a team in accomplishing all activities, and employees may occasionally be required to perform duties outside their current job description.

Responsibilities

  • Occasionally act as departmental supervisor in the Accounting Operations Supervisor or Controller’s absence.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate centralized accounting and financial reporting for assigned grants.
  • Research issues to support expenditures.
  • Draw funds and prepare invoices as needed to support expenditures.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of all applicable fiscal reports for programs and ensure timely submission.
  • Coordinate with key personnel to support proper and timely expenditure of grant funds in compliance with applicable guidelines and budget deadlines.
  • Compile year-end reports, work papers, and analysis necessary for the annual single audit.
  • Maintain grant fiscal records and database.
  • Review journal entries, assign account codes, and monitor charges for reasonableness and compliance with Federal, State, Local, and Tribal regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business and three (3) years of experience in general bookkeeping/accounting or grant fiscal management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Qualifications

  • Principles and practices of governmental accounting.
  • Federal and state regulations related to area of responsibility.
  • Computer applications including comprehensive databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
  • Researching, analyzing, and evaluating complex financial data.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective interdepartmental communications and relationships.

Skills

  • Communicate complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Analyze and interpret financial data for accuracy.
  • Detail-oriented with solid interpersonal skills.

Schedule

Must be able to occasionally work weekends and evenings.

Pay

$34.20 per hour.
