About the Role

The endoscopy/ophthalmology practical nurse provides nursing care to patients being admitted for endoscopic and ophthalmic procedures, as well as following discharge from the endoscopy/ophthalmology procedure room. This includes care for patients in an asleep but arousable post-procedure state or an awake post-sedation state through discharge to home.

During admission, the nursing role focuses on assessing, identifying, and solving nursing care and pre-procedure problems. Responsibilities include starting and monitoring IVs, administering pre-procedure medications, performing pre-procedure instruction, and explaining patient rights and procedures.

During the recovery phase, the nurse monitors vital signs, provides pain management, delivers patient and family education, and ensures patient safety until discharge into the vehicle of a responsible driver. The role requires cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, identify, and address nursing care and pre-procedure problems during patient admission.
  • Start and monitor IVs, and administer pre-procedure medications.
  • Provide pre-procedure instruction and explain patient rights and procedures.
  • Monitor vital signs during the recovery phase post-procedure.
  • Provide pain management and patient/family education.
  • Ensure patient safety until discharge to a responsible driver.
  • Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Nurse in the state of Idaho.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • One year of general nursing experience preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and speak English.
  • General high school-level mathematical skills.

  • Works well with others and maintains strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet multiple, competing deadlines.
