Job Duties
- Receive on-the-job training in FGIS grain sampling and technician procedures
- Inspect carriers for proper condition and free from leaks, odors, and infestation
- Obtain representative samples of grain
- Verify carrier weighings by grain company employees
- Complete work records accurately and efficiently
- Maintain vehicles, sampling, and lab equipment, and work environments
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Perform other related work as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Possess a valid state-issued Driver's License
- Possess a high school diploma or GED/equivalent (work experience may be substituted)
- At least 18 years old
Physical Considerations
- Regularly work in a grain elevator environment with factors such as loud noise, foul air, grain dust, inclement weather, extreme heights, and moving machinery
- Occasionally work in outdoor or semi-outdoor environments for extended periods
- Distinguish subtle differences in color, detect subtle changes in odor, and occasionally work from heights
- Frequently lift a minimum of 15 pounds, and occasionally lift 50 pounds to a height of five feet with reasonable accommodations
- Sit or stand for extended periods (several hours)
Special Requirements
- Able to adapt to variable work schedules that include nights, weekends, and holidays, and that are subject to change with little notice
- Consistent & reliable means of communication (mobile phone)
- Consistent & reliable means of transportation, including occasional use in inclement weather
- Able to obtain USDA/FGIS licenses to sample and process grain within established timeframes
Additional Information
Employees in this position may be ineligible for hire if they, their spouse, their minor children, or any relative immediately residing in their household is employed by or otherwise receives direct or indirect financial consideration from any grain elevator or warehouse, or engages in the merchandising, storage, commercial transportation, or other commercial handling of grain. If applicable, this relationship must be disclosed prior to hire.
This position cannot exceed 1000 hours annually.
