Grain Facility Operator in Training

We are primarily focused on the safe and efficient loading and unloading of railcars and trucks with grain. This role performs a wide variety of duties based on the daily needs of the operation, including grain transfer, loading, and movement; maintaining grain quality; weighing trucks and grading grain (where applicable); and general facility upkeep. Responsibilities will vary depending on the type of facility and daily operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
• Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable), including wearing appropriate PPE for the task being performed.
• Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate locations while maintaining grain quality.
• Perform duties associated with weighing trucks and grading grain (where applicable).
• Complete documentation timely, accurately, and legibly.
• Perform general clean-up, including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other housekeeping tasks.
• Operate, run, monitor, and shut down dryers as required (where applicable).
• Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs (where applicable).
• Operate a variety of heavy equipment (where applicable).
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• No prior experience required; 1 year of experience in an industrial environment with a dependable work record is preferred.
• Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
• Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
• Ability to complete documentation requirements and follow directions using logical thought processes to interpret instructions and troubleshoot problems.
• Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
• Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks.
• Commitment to exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.

Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions

• Ability to balance constantly/continuously and frequently bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat.
• Frequently climb stairs and ladders to significant heights.
• Constantly/continuously stand and walk, and work in an environment with high dust levels around grain and other bulk products (where applicable).
• Ability to concentrate on tasks without becoming distracted.
• Ability to distinguish grade, color, odor, and various damage characteristics in grain samples (at some facilities).
• Ability to enter information into a computer and use near, far, and peripheral vision and depth perception for tasks being performed.
• Frequently grasp and reach, and occasionally to continuously lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs depending on daily needs.
• Ability to meet requirements of and utilize all applicable PPE, pass required testing under FRA and DOT (where applicable), and perform work in confined spaces.
• Ability to safely walk on barge surfaces and work around deep/swift water (required at Convent, LA location).
• Ability to understand and communicate verbally (in person and over two-way radio) and in writing, including recognizing emergency alarms.
• Ability to walk safely on top of railcars, open gates, operate vibrators, and open silo bin doors and rail car hoppers (Convent, LA location only).
• Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed.
• Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions and remain acutely aware of surroundings with the ability to quickly adjust to signals or changes in the environment.
• Work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions, frequently using personal protective equipment.
• 5%-20% travel may be required at some facilities, including off-site training and/or work at alternate locations.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this role is $16.50 - $25.00 per hour. Actual pay offered may vary depending on work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience.
