About the role
Operate the grain elevator to receive, store, condition, dry, transfer, and load out grain while sustaining the Mission and Motto and Food Safety and Quality Statement of the Mennel Milling Company.
Responsibilities
- Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations related to GMPs, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act, and sanitation guidelines; attend all required training sessions.
- Maintain the department/facility in an everyday audit-ready condition.
- Operate grain handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Grade and inspect grain, corn, wheat, and soybeans.
- Work safely with and around rail cars, grain trucks, semi-tractor trailers, barges, and other grain-hauling vehicles.
- Sanitize grain bins and loading stations.
- Perform routine and emergency maintenance on equipment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of hand tools and ability to use them.
- Ability to climb fixed and portable ladders.
- Ability to pass a Qualitative Respirator Fit Test and perform essential duties while wearing a respirator.
- Ability to work at heights above 180 feet.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work while wearing PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, fall protection, and safety shoes.
- Ability to work in an industrial environment.
Language skills
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, procedures, and plans.
- Write, complete checklists, and other basic documentation and correspondence.
- Present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisors, and managers.
Mathematical skills
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning ability
- Use solid judgment when making decisions.
- Quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.
Physical demands
- Regularly stand, walk, use hands for maintenance tasks, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more.
- Required vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work environment
- Regular exposure to a fast-paced manufacturing environment with moving equipment and machinery, dusty, hot/humid, and cold conditions.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in the presence of airborne particles.
- Noise level usually requires hearing protection.
- Exposure to common wheat allergens.
