Grain Elevator 1st Shift Manager

The Basics

Location: Council Bluffs, IA
Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience
Days/Hours: 1st shift, 6am to 4pm, Mon-Thurs but you will work outside those hours, including weekends.

Equipment Used

• Variety of grain handling equipment, mainly conveyors and legs
• Material Handled: Bulk corn

What You’ll Be Doing

The Shift Manager is responsible for providing training, support and assistance to hourly team members. You will have a key role in maintaining a safe and sanitary workplace in compliance with Company policies and applicable regulations. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Commitment to worker safety, regulatory compliance and adherence to Company policies and procedures.
• Loading, unloading, sampling, grading, transferring, blending, drying, storage, aeration and fumigation of grain.
• Effectively assist with the supervision and management of personnel and operational activities.
• Assist with managing the business to plan according to pre-set objectives.
• Be familiar with all operations, systems, policies and procedures including, but not limited to:
• Weighing or measuring materials and products and using scales or other measuring instruments in order to verify specified tonnages.
• Maintaining equipment, machinery, and work stations, using hand tools, shovels, brooms, chemicals, hoses, and lubricants.
• Observing conveyor operations and monitor lights, dials, and gauges, in order to maintain specified operating levels and to detect equipment malfunctions.
• Avoiding and reporting equipment malfunctions.
• Affirmatively communicating tasks, directives and policies with both senior management and supervised team members.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• 1 year plus experience working in grain handling facility or similar
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Ag Mechanics, Ag Business or similar is preferred
• Must be able to read, write, understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English
• Available to work overtime and weekends
• Professional demeanor (safety conscious, quality of job performance, cleanliness, and verbal communications)
• Able to pass a criminal background check

Physical Requirements

• This job can be physically strenuous
• You will be expected to be able to work in tight and confined spaces
• You will work at heights
• You will need the ability to frequently lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally more
• This job will require the ability to ascend/descend ladders
• You will be required to wear PPE
