Grain Division Managerial Trainee

The DeLong Co. is seeking a Grain Merchandiser for our Clinton grain exports team — a role built to develop you into a well-rounded leader across accounting, merchandising, risk management, logistics, grading, and outside operations.

What You'll Do
- Accounting: Support AGRIS accounting software use, contract/ticket/settlement review, accounts receivable management, and customer account review
- Mercandising & Origination: Communicate with producers and end-users, manage physical grain trading positions, monitor HPR/contracts, and support trade arbitrage and intercompany trades
- Risk Management: Support hedge desk operations, reconcile daily HPR, and assist with audit and risk mitigation procedures
- Logistics: Coordinate truck/rail/barge shipping and receiving, calculate transportation rates, review freight invoices, and build shipping schedules
- Grain Grading: Learn grading procedures for corn, soybeans, and wheat, operate scale systems, perform purity and toxin tests, and manage sample documentation
- Outside Operations: Gain exposure to elevator operations, quality management, safety practices, maintenance procedures, and inventory systems
The Work Environment
- Ability to sit for long periods of time while managing contracts, data, and communications
- Fast-moving, high-pressure situations with rapidly changing requirements, especially during peak season
- Extended hours required during busy periods
Requirements
- Required: 1 year of agricultural business experience or a farming background
- Familiarity: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Skills: Strong communication skills, demonstrated organizational skills, ability to accept responsibility and be vocal within the organization
- Education: 4-year college degree or equivalent industry experience in Finance, Accounting, Business, Agriculture, or Economics
- License: Valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance
