Position Overview

The Graduate Student Testing Assistant assists the full-time Testing Coordinator in coordinating and administering exams for KU students, including accommodated exams for students registered with the Student Access Center and make-up exams. Staffing a table at events and assisting with other projects is also possible.

Job Description

  • Assist full-time Testing Center staff in coordinating academic testing, including providing accommodations for KU students with disabilities by proctoring accommodated exams.
  • Other duties related to testing can include:
    • Printing exams for students
    • Scanning exams for return to instructors
    • Scanning test cover sheets for electronic filing
    • Undergoing training for providing accommodations
    • Frequent correspondence with faculty, staff, students, and multiple academic departments on campus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 75% - Assist full-time Testing Center staff in coordinating academic testing, including providing accommodations for KU students with disabilities by proctoring accommodated exams.
  • 15% - Assist SAC professional staff in accessible print production including the scanning and conversion of print-based materials into accessible formats.
  • 5% - Represent Student Access Center at information tables or other orientation events.
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong interest in working with students with disabilities as evidenced by cover letter.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills as demonstrated by the interview.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Access and Excel, and Adobe products as demonstrated in the application materials.

Position Requirements

  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours.
  • For summer periods the student hourly must:
    • Have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or be enrolled in summer session or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.

Employment Conditions

  • Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
  • This is an hourly/non-exempt position.
  • A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
