About the Role

The Graduate Civil Engineer will work on planning, evaluation, design, and implementation of civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will learn the study-phase and/or design-phase of projects related to civil, environmental, construction, and industrial fields. This role involves interaction with employees outside of their department, rare client interaction, and rare public interaction (agencies, government entities, etc.). The Graduate Civil Engineer is expected to project a professional presence and have beginner-level knowledge of at least one engineering software package. A Professional Engineering license is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides updates to project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of various designs and modifications.
  • Uses design software and drawing tools to accurately render and communicate designs; plans and designs other necessary improvements related to assigned projects.
  • Follows design specifications by computing appropriate engineering requirements.
  • Plans projects based on analysis of relevant materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other geologic and topographical data.
  • Performs calculations and drafts technical reports related to projects.
  • Ensures design specifications and standards are met.
  • Demonstrates a strong desire to learn, ask questions, and maximize knowledge in the field of Civil Engineering.
  • Participates in appropriate meetings, association memberships, and events to establish, develop, and grow networking contacts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Civil Engineering Degree (or related field).
  • EIT or working toward EIT, preferred.
  • Develop baseline knowledge of state and local regulations.

Skills

  • Basic understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • Proficient in computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analysis software.
  • Basic understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of site and transportation infrastructure improvements.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
