About the role
Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Graduate Engineer, Water Resources (AKA: Civil Engineer Intern I) to join our team in Baton Rouge, LA.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical, day-to-day design support to the Project Engineer, including drafting support for plan production activities
- Performs hydrologic and hydraulic design calculations (H&H)
- Affords assistance in developing 2D and 1D hydraulic/hydrologic models (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM)
- Prepares drawings and visual aids
- Supports flood risk assessments, drainage studies, master plans, and concept-level flood mitigation evaluations
- Follows internal QA/QC procedures, engineering standards, and best practices
- Observes construction activities and works to develop an understanding of construction methods and the translation of engineering drawings and specifications into the constructed product
- Works to learn the fundamentals of engineering processes and to apply them successfully to operating systems
- Other duties as assigned

- Proficient in computer software (Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook, Microsoft Project)
- Competent technical skills required to complete engineering tasks

- Detail-oriented but also flexible enough to be big picture/conceptual
- Able to compromise and accept other’s ideas
- Good reputation amongst peers, clients, and agencies
- Able to follow general directions and guidelines for the firm’s policies, practices, and procedures
- A supportive team member with the ability to work both independently and within a collaborative environment
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
- Engineer-in-Training Certificate, or the ability to obtain within 6-12 months
