GRADUATE ENGINEER
About the role
The position is part of the Engineering & Construction Service Line in Houston, TX. It is an Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.
Responsibilities
- Review Water/Wastewater treatment facilities projects, lift stations, force mains, non-potable water lines, water well collection lines for compliance with relevant manuals and regulations.
- Lead reviews on Capital Improvement projects submitted to the Office of the City Engineer.
- Review Joint Referral Committee applications and provide responses.
- Attend as OCE representative in the City's Joint Referral Committee meetings.
- Prepare, review, and monitor the easement dedication process for the Office of the City Engineer.
- Coordinate with plan reviewers on required easements and assist applicants in obtaining necessary documentation.
- Enter application files into legal tracking systems and other databases.
- Respond to inquiries from the public and other City groups, ensuring the process is completed successfully and recorded.
- Communicate and coordinate with other group members, personnel in other Houston Public Works service lines/branches, and other departments, engineering consultants, technical professionals, and the public.
- Review variance requests submitted to the Office of the City Engineer regarding Infrastructure Design Manual design criteria and specifications.
- Review preliminary plats submitted through the Planning Department and provide comments on the CPC-101 form according to the IDM and City of Houston code of ordinance.
- Attend biweekly Planning Commission meetings.
- Provide technical guidance and training to staff as needed.
- Investigate and respond to inquiries from technical personnel and the general public on design criteria and project specifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering or a related science curriculum from a recognized institution of higher education, with satisfactory standing.
- Possession of an Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
- No prior experience is required.
- No licenses are required.
Skills
Preference is given to eligible veteran applicants who meet the necessary qualifications.
Benefits
Selected applicants will be required to obtain certification through the City of Houston Inspector Training Class.
Schedule
The position operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional changes.
Pay
The salary offered is determined by the candidate's qualifications and the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
